Hull Christmas Lights Switch-On Information

Hull’s annual Christmas lights switch-on will take place later this month.

The festivities will take place on Thursday 24 November and the Rose Bowl fountain area near Queens Gardens will again take centre stage to officially start the festive season. 

Hosted by local commentator Neil Rudd, the official switch-on will get underway from 7pm, with a guest appearances from 2016's Hull Daily Mail Star Search winner - Brooke Sunlay and Junior Star Search winner for 2016 Mia Codd, who will help build the atmosphere ahead of the big switch-on.

The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Sean Chaytor, along with Hull FC's legend Kirk Yeaman and the 2016 Man of Steel, Danny Houghton will officially switch-on the Christmas Lights and push the button at 7.30pm, marking the start of the Christmas festivities. 

The Rose Bowl fountain area near Queens Gardens will again feature a collection of four huge 8 metre (26ft) high Sitka Spruce trees decorated with sparkling lights. 

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure and Chair of Hull Culture & Leisure Limited, said: "The Christmas lights switch-on will help everyone get in the festive spirit and enjoy the late-night shopping."

Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Sean Chaytor is happy to be switching on the lights, he said: “I am really looking forward to welcoming families to officially switch on this year’s festive lights."

Many shops will also be open as it is one of the late night shopping nights leading up to Christmas.
