Polar Bear Brings Magic of Christmas to Museums

09/11/2016

A life-sized robotic polar bear will be the star of the show at a Christmas extravaganza in Hull city centre.

The free event promises to "bring the magic of Christmas to life" when it is held at the end of November in Hull's Museums Quarter.

On Saturday 26th November, families will be able to visit Father Christmas in his traditionally decorated grotto and tell him what presents they would like to see under the tree on Christmas Day. There will also be a range of theatrical stories, face-painting and craft activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure and chair of Hull Culture and Leisure Limited, said: "The Museums Quarter is a great location for The Magic of Christmas, it lends itself to a Christmas atmosphere and gets everyone in fantastic spirits for the festive season.

"It also gives us the opportunity to show off our nationally recognised cultural facilities to people who may not normally visit the museums."

Supported by HullBID, the city's business improvement district, visitors can experience the magic of a traditional Christmas at the Streetlife Museum, where it will be transformed into a living Victorian street with characters from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, including Ebenezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit.

The traditional entertainment will run from 10am to 4pm, with the added excitement of Bjorn the polar bear from 11am to 3pm. The life-sized animatronic polar bear will arrive alongside a traditional carousel and real reindeer, so children and families can see who really pulls Santa's sleigh.
