Give the Gift of Theatre to families this Christmas

29/11/2016

For many people a trip to the theatre is a treasured memory, but due to a variety of reasons many families across Hull aren't able to have this wonderful experience. Hull Truck Theatre’s Give the Gift of Theatre campaign is an opportunity to help those facing challenging financial circumstances to be inspired by a theatre visit.

Donating to the campaign will allow disadvantaged children and families to experience the magic of a production at Hull Truck Theatre and create lasting memories together. Supporters of the campaign will help the local community engage with Hull Truck Theatre all year round, allowing some Hull residents to visit the theatre for the first time.

A donation of £12 will pay for a child’s ticket to a Hull Truck Theatre show, such as A Christmas Treasure Island, which runs until Saturday 7th January. £50 will allow a family to enjoy a trip to the theatre together, and a larger donation of £200 will sponsor a local school on a theatre visit.

Mark Babych, Hull Truck Theatre’s Artistic Director, said: "Theatre enriches our lives, challenges our perceptions and can transform the way we see the world, so it’s important that theatres do whatever they can to reduce the barriers to attendance.

"By teaming up with Hull Children’s University we can help people who wouldn’t otherwise come to the theatre to have a brilliant, memorable experience. Donating even a small amount to our Give the Gift of Theatre scheme is such a worthwhile thing to do and can have a lasting positive impact on people’s lives. It’s a fantastic present to give this Christmas."

Hull Truck Theatre launched the Give the Gift of Theatre campaign in 2014 to help those facing challenging financial circumstances to be inspired by performance, both at Christmas and throughout the year. Over 1,300 local people have benefited from the scheme since it began.

Give the Gift of Theatre runs in association with Hull Children’s University, who work with local schools and looked after children to provide memorable experiences throughout the year. Hull Children’s University identify those who would benefit from a visit to the theatre and offer them a ticket from the Give the Gift of Theatre scheme.
