It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It's the evening when 20,000 people put on their gloves and scarves, brave the chilly weather, treat themselves to a bag of hot roast chestnuts and come together for an evening of good old-fashioned Christmas celebrations.
Thursday 22nd November sees the big switch-on of Hull city centre's festive illuminations at Queen Victoria Square. However, anyone who's been before knows that it's not just about the countdown and the pressing of a large button (although both of those things are pretty awesome), but the fantastic entertainment, music and community spirit that make this the warmest, fuzziest, twinkliest event of the year!
The fun starts at 5:30pm with fantastic performances by local bands and traditional carols by Ti Amero. Now, we're sure that you all know the words to the old classics, so we want to hear plenty of people joining in! Then, at 6:45pm, Lord Mayor Councillor Daniel Brown will bring light to the city centre, but he needs the people of Hull to count down from ten because that's what makes it a big switch-on!
You can expect to see plenty of faces at this event and it's the perfect opportunity to try a delicious Yuletide blend from one of the city centre's many wonderful coffee houses. And don't forget that this event sees the start of late-night shopping, so there'll be plenty of shops, boutiques and eateries open until late.
What more could you wish for, except for a big green Christmas tree? Oh wait, there'll be one of those as well! As the Raymond Briggs Father Christmas would say, "Bloomin' marvellous!"
